Theaters were packed with new movies this weekend – but not audiences.
The Help and Rise of the Planet of the Apes stayed on top of the heap, with a number of disappointing debuts filling out the rest of the chart.
The Help earned a $20.5 million victory, with James Franco‘s Apes hitting $16.3 million for a strong second place.
After that, things got kinda ugly.
Spy Kids 4D opened to $12 million, enough to debut ahead of Conan The Barbarian‘s $10.5 million debut.
Colin Farrell and the Fright Night remake ($8.3 million) managed to stay ahead of fourth-week wonder The Smurfs, which took in $8 million.
Final Destination 5 racked up $7.7 million and 30 Minutes or Less earned $6.3 million, both ahead of the new Anne Hathaway romance, One Day, which struggled to a $5.1 million bow.
Crazy, Stupid, Love rounded out the Top 10 with $4.9 million.
